STORAGE TIPS

  • Use uniform sized boxes for easy stacking.
  • Create an inventorylist of your belongings and keep the list in a safe place outside of the facility.
  • Set-up your unit by placing a protective cover on the floor prior to loading your unit.
  • Any concrete floor may become cold and damp.Place your storage items on top of lumber or on pallets to guard against dampness.
  • Create a plan for your storage unit. Place the items which you will use on a frequent basis toward the front of the unit for easy access.
  • WARNING! Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.)
  • For easier access to your belongings, leave an aisle down the center of the storage unit. Create a small space between the walls and boxes to allow for air circulation.
  • Stack heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on the top.
  • Use boxes and containers which are strong enough to hold 20-30 pounds. (It is recommended not to put too much in each container.)
  • List box/container contents on all four sides; number the box/container and seal with tape.
  • Wrap dishes and glasses in paper and pack in sturdy boxes/containers. Stack them on top of other items and never underneath.
  • Wrap pictures, mirrors, and glass in cardboard and mark them as “FRAGILE” and store them on end; do not lay them flat.
  • Utilize furniture drawers as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels, or blankets to prevent breakage.
  • Larger appliances can be packed with items as well. Make certain that the appliance is clean before packing.
